The Oaks School is a new independent special school for pupils aged 11–16 specifically designed to meet the needs of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are now recruiting a motivational, caring Pastoral and Inclusion Lead with some teaching experience to join our growing team. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a small specialist school at its foundational year, to collaborate with like-minded professionals and bring to life our unique Behaviour, Rewards and Regulation Policy that is fundamental to the success here at The Oaks.
Our holistic approach to behaviour management requires a kind, patient and thoughtful mentor to lead regulation and restorative practice. We are looking for a specialist who has experience in trauma-informed practice and SEMH, who will advocate for our complex children and give them a safe environment to thrive whilst supporting staff. Every lesson and every day is a fresh start and we need an individual who believes in relational practice over punitive consequences.
About the role
As the Pastoral and Inclusion Lead at The Oaks you will:
- Be responsible for ensuring the Behaviour, Regulation and Rewards procedures are consistently applied
- Design, adapt and implement emotional wellbeing and regulation interventions
- Lead attendance tracking, monitoring and communication
- Coach and support colleagues’ understanding of the Behaviour, Regulation and Rewards Policy
- Be on hand to deliver engaging lessons when required
- Use data effectively to evaluate pastoral progress against individual EHCP outcomes
- Undertake DDSL responsibilities and support the DSL in safeguarding practice
- Work closely with specialist support staff and multi-agency partners to enhance opportunities and outcomes
- Foster positive relationships with pupils and families to support engagement and wellbeing
- Join a collaborative, innovative and relational team
Person specification
Training & qualifications (essential)
- Educational, Pastoral or related qualifications
- Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list information
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Up-to-date KCSIE safeguarding training
Training & qualifications (non-essential)
- SEN and behaviour-related training or specialism
- Level 7 or equivalent qualifications
- A desire to invest in Personal Development qualifications, such as NPQs
Experience
- Experience of teaching, mentoring and/or inclusion within an education setting
- Experience supporting learners with SEMH or challenging behaviour
- Skilled at using assessment data to track progress
Professional knowledge
- Strong understanding of ACEs, trauma-informed practice, SEMH and relational approaches
- Confident with ICT for teaching and learning
- Knowledge of national policies, statutory frameworks and school improvement strategies
