Teacher with Mathematics Specialism (Key Stage 3 & 4)
M1–U3 (depending on current teaching scale and experience) + SEN II allowance
The Oaks School is a new independent special school for pupils aged 11–16 specifically designed to meet the needs of children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are now recruiting an inspirational and creative Teacher, with experience teaching Mathematics to join our growing team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a small specialist school at its foundational year, to collaborate with like-minded professionals and design a holistic curriculum which will meet pupils’ individual learning needs. We are looking for a specialist who has experience in trauma-informed practice, adaptive teaching and differentiation that will make GCSEs and functional skills accessible for all. About the role
As a Teacher and specialist in Mathematics at The Oaks you will:
- Teach Maths and other subjects across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Contribute to curriculum planning, adaptation and coaching where necessary in a broad, balanced and personalised setting
- Deliver engaging, motivating lessons with high expectations and adaptive responses
- Use data effectively to evaluate pupil progress and inform planning
- Ensure safeguarding and EHCP criteria is consistently met
- Work closely with specialist support staff and multi-agency partners to enhance opportunities and outcomes
- Foster positive relationships with pupils and families to support engagement and wellbeing
- Join a collaborative, innovative and relational team
Person specification
Training & qualifications (essential)
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or willingness to achieve QTS in post
- Relevant Degree and PGCE or equivalent
- Willingness to undertake an Enhanced DBS check with children’s barred list information
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Up-to-date KCSIE safeguarding training
Training & qualifications (non-essential)
- SEN and behaviour-related training or specialism
- Level 7 or equivalent qualifications
- A desire to invest in Personal Development qualifications, such as NPQs
Experience
- Teaching Maths and / or related subjects (such as Science, Computing, Business Studies, Functional Skills) in KS3 and KS4 with measurable impact
- Experience supporting learners with SEMH or challenging behaviour
- Skilled at using assessment data to track progress
Professional knowledge
- Strong understanding of curriculum planning, assessment and effective pedagogy
- Confident with ICT for teaching and learning
- Knowledge of national policies, statutory frameworks and school improvement strategies
